Knowing What You’re Dealing With

This course kicks off by giving the info you’ll need to understand what you’re looking at when it comes to pentatonics and it’s easier than you think! We’ll cover the basic theory that will apply to every lesson as well as dive into our first position.

Week 2

07/01/2021 at 3pm

The E Shape: Back By Popular Demand

Not only is the E shape one of the easiest to see and understand, but it’s where most players find a lot of their vocabulary. In week two, we’ll dedicate some more love to the E shape.

Week 3

07/08/2021 at 3pm

The G Shapes and Positions

At this point, we’re already familiar with one of the G shapes because it was also the Em shape. Now we’ll not only repurpose it this week, but we’ll also double the amount of territory you can cover on the neck in any key.

Week 4

07/15/2021 at 3pm

Connecting the Two Shapes

You might be good at both positions on their own, but can you flow between them? In week four’s lesson, we’ll weave in and out and back and forth between the G and the E shapes.

Week 5

07/22/2021 at 3pm

The A Shapes and Positions

This week in Combining Major and Minor Pentatonics, we’ll dive into arguably the second most important position of the CAGED shapes, and good news - you already know the A major shape because you’ve been using it as the G minor shape for the past two weeks!

Week 6

07/29/2021 at 4pm

Connecting the A and G Shapes

In week 6, we’ll expand our coverage of the neck from 40% to 60% as I walk you through shifting between the A and G shapes.

Week 7

08/05/2021 at 3pm

The C Shapes and Positions

In the last couple of lessons, one of the positions we worked with was the Am shape. This week we’ll reuse it as its major incarnation as we take on the C shape.

Week 8

08/12/2021 at 3pm

Connecting the C and A Shapes

Sure, lining up positions is great and all, but the last thing you want to do is be stuck in a box. In week eight, we’ll get comfortable switching between the C and the A shapes as we increase to 80% coverage of the neck.

Week 9

09/02/2021 at 3pm

The D Shapes and Positions

Well, we’ve only got one shape left, and believe it or not, you already know both of the positions if you’ve been following along. In this week’s lesson, we’ll combine the “C minor” shape (repurposed as the D major shape) and the “E minor” shape (repurposed as D minor shape) in order to complete the entire neck.

Week 10

09/09/2021 at 3pm

Connecting the E and D Shapes

For the last lesson of Combining Major and Minor Pentatonics, we’ll finally tie together the two positions that everyone loves to combine, the E and D shapes.
