Lágrima by Francisco Tárrega

Evan introduces one of the most famous pieces of the classical guitar repertoire. This one is centered around left hand shifting and generating color and emotion on the guitar.

Week 2

10/13/2020 at 4pm

Prelude from the 1st Cello Suite by J.S. Bach

Much of the classical guitar repertoire is pulled from the music of other instruments, and the prelude from the 1st Cello Suite by Bach may be the most famous example of that. We’ll be focusing on arpeggios and legato.

Week 3

10/20/2020 at 4pm

La Catedral by Agustín Barrios

La Catedral is considered Paraguayan guitarist and composer Agustín Barrios’ magnum opus. Join Evan as he walks you through the iconic first movement - Preludio Saudade

Week 4

10/27/2020 at 4pm

Romance - Anonymous

Maybe the single most famous piece in the guitar repertoire, and we really don’t know who actually composed it. It’s become famous for its emotive melody, and simple beauty.

Week 5

11/03/2020 at 4pm

Cançó del lladre by Miguel Llobet

A hauntingly beautiful melody that derives from an old catalan folk song, arranged for guitar by early 20th century Catalan guitarist and composer Miguel Llobet. In this piece, the original melody is echoed with natural harmonics.

Week 6

11/10/2020 at 4pm

Asturias (Leyenda) - Isaac Albéniz

Asturias is one of the most famous pieces in the guitar repertoire, yet it wasn’t written for guitar. In fact, it was written by a Spanish pianist! It is famous for its “flamenco” sounding chords and quick, octaved lines.

Week 7

11/17/2020 at 4pm

Capricho Arabe - Francisco Tárrega

Capricho Arabe has one of the most iconic melodies in classical guitar. Characterized by its romantic melody and ominous bassline, it’s a classic!

Week 8

11/24/2020 at 4pm

Etude No.7 by Matteo Carcassi

Etude No.7 is an excellent student on both an introduction to tremolo and arpeggios. This study helps you self-evaluate your progress on right hand technique.

Week 9

12/01/2020 at 4pm

Variations on a Theme by Mozart - Fernando Sor

In this piece, we will take a look at a famous melody and variations of it originally by Mozart, but set to variations on guitar by Spanish guitarist Fernando Sor. Lots of slurs (hammer on’s and pull-offs) - beware!

Week 10

12/08/2020 at 4pm

Study No. 23 by Napoléon Coste

Evan wraps things up by teaching a well-known study by French composer Napoléon Coste. This one involves precise right hand thumb movement, and a flowing 16th note line flying above.
